Tropics Outlook

In the 2008 Hurricane Season, which officially ended on November 30 for the Atlantic Basin, there have been 16 named storms. Eight storms reached hurricane status and five were major hurricanes. Hurricane Ike was the most powerful storm of the 2008 season, with wind speeds clocking in at 145 MPH. A total 833 people lost their lives as a result of tropical systems this year; 800 of those deaths took place in Haiti. Property damages have reached around $54 billion for the entire season.
