Staying Safe During Spring Break
Spring break should be a time for fun memories. No matter your destination, stay safe during spring break by following these basic tips.
- It's true: there's safety in numbers. Avoid going out alone when you're away from home. Use the buddy system. If you're out in a group, your buddy will make sure you're not left behind (and vice versa).
- Make sure someone at home has all the information about your trip: itinerary, hotel phone number and room number, and the names of your travel companions. Your itinerary should include your flight plans or driving route, and the expected date and time of your arrival at your destination and return home. Take a few minutes each day to call home with updates. Be sure to let your contact person know if any of your plans change.
- If you don't already own a cell phone, borrow one, or purchase a pre-paid phone. Memorize your companions' phone numbers, in case your phone is lost or stolen.
- Carry your identification, emergency phone numbers, and a card listing any medical conditions or allergies with you at all times.
